Antarctica Travel Guide

One of the Earth's last great frontiers, Antarctica features the dramatic extremes of a frozen continent with the temperatures recorded as low as -129 degrees F. It is world's the highest, coldest, windiest and driest continent situated in the southern hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and yet it is a fascinating destination with its pristine beauty and serenity. Antarctica's landscape stays mostly untouched by humans. There are only some of scientific bases.

Antarctica is not easy to reach, perhaps that is part of its appeal to adventurous travelers, and yet numbers of people visiting Antarctica is increasing every year. The weather of Antarctica may be cold and remote, but this frozen continent is home to some great wildlife including penguins, orcas, blue whales, fur seals, lichen, birds and many types of algae. Emperor Penguins in Ross Sea are only penguin that breeds during the winter. Animal lovers, photographers and birdwatchers are also in for a treat in Antarctica with its different species of wildlife that are native to Antarctica.

It is best to visit Antarctic during the summer months (November to March). Cruise ships are one of the best ways to explore Antarctica.
