Overview |
The land of the smile: Thailand's nickname promises a holiday amongst a friendly people, just as it always has. Indeed, with their positive attitudes, the Thais themselves have always been the main attraction amidst the lush green rice fields, rural villages, tropical splendour and the lively streets of Bangkok. Hardly anything fascinates visitors more than the sweet temper, unobtrusive friendliness as well as the enthusiasm for life and good times. As if the landscape, which contrasts between the cool, mountainous north, the barren northeast, the booming, fertile centre of Thailand and the paradisiacal, tropical south could have ever dispirited the mentality of the people. In the uncomplicated boundaries between tradition, religion and modernity, western guests are guaranteed to find a place. The Thai way of life can be observed as easily in the big city of Bangkok as on the snow-white palm tree beaches on Ko Samui. Seductive scents wafts out of the food stalls that are sure to lure in the visitors. The presence of the all-existing Buddha reminds visitors of the significance of the religion that has its roots embedded deep in the lives of the Thais. Representations of this are to be found at the glorious temple sites such as the royal Wat Phra Keo in Bangkok or in Sukhothai. Rice fields are everywhere, growing in terraced fields up the hillside and spanning up to the areas of the impenetrable jungle where adventure awaits more courageous holidaymakers. Welcome to Thailand! |
