Overview |
The Greek Cypriots have been developing Agia Napa as a new holiday centre of the south since the division of Cyprus in the 70's. Village alleyways have been turned into glittering pleasure arcades, the fishing boat harbour expanded into a marina, which is well worth a visit, and the nightlife scene to the west of Plateia Seferi leave no wish unfulfilled. Throughout the day, beautiful sandy beaches offering countless fun sports as well as many water sports draw in the crowds, whilst the nightclubs start to heave with a party atmosphere later in the evening. Those wishing to indulge in some culture between sunbathing and shopping should pay a visit to Agia Napa monastery: this 16th century, Venetian-style building towers over the large square on which Panagia church was built. To the east of the marina sprawls Agia Napa's town beach, which is extremely popular during the peak season. More peaceful spots are to be found around 20 minutes walk away, on Pernera Beach or Sandy Bay. Equally close by is the popular Nissi Bay, with its calm, shallow waters. |
