Overview |
In contrast to the nearby holiday resorts of Pernera and Protaras, Paralimni, the town with 12,000 inhabitants to the east of Cyprus, is very quiet. The town's attractions are limited to 3 churches that are clustered around the largest village square on the island. Alongside the 19th century church of St. George is a house of worship dedicated to the dragon slayer of former times and a 12th century Panagia church. Paralimni is not located directly beside the sea, instead is a little inland. The name of the town refers to a body of water as Paralimni means "beside the lake". To find this during the summer is a difficult undertaking as the once mosquito-plagued inhabitants drained it. Only in the winter does a little water collect here. |
