Paralimni Travel Guide

In contrast to the nearby holiday resorts of Pernera and Protaras, Paralimni, the town with 12,000 inhabitants to the east of Cyprus, is very quiet. The town's attractions are limited to 3 churches that are clustered around the largest village square on the island. Alongside the 19th century church of St. George is a house of worship dedicated to the dragon slayer of former times and a 12th century Panagia church. Paralimni is not located directly beside the sea, instead is a little inland. The name of the town refers to a body of water as Paralimni means "beside the lake". To find this during the summer is a difficult undertaking as the once mosquito-plagued inhabitants drained it. Only in the winter does a little water collect here.
