Overview |
Three keywords perfectly characterise the popular beach resort of Protara in the east of the island: sun, sea and sand. Accordingly, a multitude of water sports providers have established themselves on the former fishing village's pretty sandy beach on the fig tree-lined bay. Cultural enthusiasts will, however, have to leave the modern holiday resort in order to find something of interest. Extremely close by between Protaras and Paralimni is the valley of the windmills. In the past, the windmills there were used to irrigate the potato and vegetable fields. Day trips to Larnaka in the southwest or to Nikosia somewhat inland require more time. |
