Dining in Bologna |
Known as ‘La Grassa’ (the Fat One), Bologna is indisputably Italy’s gastronomic capital, and ‘alla Bolognese’, far from being a sauce, is a phrase which encapsulates every king of oral pleasure. The city is home to the basics of Italian cooking: lasagna, tortellini, Parma ham, balsamic vinegar and countless salamis and cheeses, but it’s hard to beat a simple piadana (flat bread) filled with delectable ingredients. Lunch in this historic town takes two hours at least, and dinner the best part of an evening. Slightly off the tourist trail, it is cheaper to eat out here compared to Florence and Rome, so you can indulge in a blow-out meal like a medieval duke at medieval prices. |
