The city of Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados. It will seduce you with its beaches illuminated by the sun, the turquoise sea and gentle winds. You'll discover the old plantation, with its crops of sugar cane, or beautiful gardens with scents and colors like nowhere else. You will notice that the British cultural heritage is still very present in the city with the cricket grounds, the statue of Nelson and Trafalgar place. Be sure to go for a tour and visit the shops on Broad Street that the street is the largest market and where you will find excellent business on products imported from Britain. While continuing the tour of the city, you can admire the fountain of the Dauphin, the War Memorial and the Lord Nelson Statue, hero of the famous Battle of Trafalgar, are located very near, and the seat of Parliament, which was completely rebuilt after the devastating fire of 1860. Swan Street, formerly known as Jewish Street by reference to the place of residence of the Jewish families who opened their businesses here, is another of the attractions of the city. It is closely linked to the synagogue in Bridgetown, reference point for culture and the Jewish religion in the western hemisphere of the planet: built in 1654, it was recently restored and is attended by the local Jewish communities. |
